Civic Justice Corps August Service Project
08/04/2007
The crew and Ms. Brown on her new ramp!
The HIS Way Civic Justice Corps partnered with the Lowcountry Civic Justice Corps in August to rebuild a wheelchair ramp for our neighbor, Ms. Lavikia Brown. A devoted grandmother, Ms. Brown loves to spend time outdoors with the kids. The ramp that was existing didn't provide a place for her to rest in her wheelchair and watch them while they played. Furthermore, the missing handrails raised safety concerns for the entire family. By bringing together the HIS Way CJC, the LCJC, and Ms. Brown's family, she is now able to relax on her front deck and travel safely down her new ramp with ease.
The dedicated LCJC members carefully designed and planned the construction of the new ramp. This project was able to provide hands-on experience that Corps members can apply to their future careers. Among the many blessings surrounding this project was the support given from local building supply businesses who off-set the cost by donating the materials needed. On Saturday, August 4, 2007, members of the HIS Way CJC volunteered their time and skills to bring Ms. Brown's ramp to life.
The eagerness of our crew paid off at the end of the day when Ms. Brown wheeled onto her new ramp and smiled. The CJC continues to be an example of how serving others and serving the Lord go hand in hand.
