Community fellowship at the R.O.C. Church Health Fair
05/12/2007
"Pluggie" stole the hearts of fair goers of all ages
The Revelation of Christ (R.O.C.) Church and the Partners for a Better Community (PBC) held their annual Health Fair and Walk for a Better Community Saturday, May 12, 2007. It was a time for the North Charleston community to gather for fellowship while enjoying free access to a variety of health services. Walkers gathered at the early hour of 9:00am to join in the Walk for a Better Community. As they burned calories, volunteers mingled at their displays outside of the R.O.C. Church.
This fair definitely had something for everyone. The North Charleston fire department, accompanied by a walking, talking, squirting fire hydrant, "Pluggie" who stole the show, provided safety training and entertainment. "Pluggie" befriended the children and charmed the adults, creating a fun-loving atmosphere throughout the day.
Inspired by 1 Corinthians 6:19 that says "our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit", the Health Fair encouraged health awareness by offering free screenings for: diabetes, sickle cell, high blood pressure, hearing, and breast cancer. In addition, fair goers were able to address other health issues by visiting the displays and talking with representatives from these community organizations. The Noisette Foundation offered information about the H.U.B. Academy, the Lowcountry Civic Justice Corps, and the Greater Charleston Prisoner Re-entry Advisory Committee; inviting community members to help improve the health of our neighborhoods by joining the Committee.
What's a great Health Fair without hot dogs and snow cones? After a blessed day of laughing, learning, and sharing these delicious treats really hit the spot!
